What we actually see with the eyes are the patterns of light that strike the retina, a light-sensitive layer of cells at the back of the eye. In the center of the retina is the macula, where the light rays are most highly focused and visual acuity is highest. The macula is especially vulnerable to oxidative damage because it has a high metabolic rate and because the light focused on it enhances the production of free radicals. The central portion of the macula contains a yellow pigment called the macular pigment, which helps protect the sensitive receptors in the macula particularly from the potentially harmful effects of short-wavelength light. As we age, there is a general decline in visual acuity. The factors that are affecting your vision every day:
heater dry air
high winds
oxidative damage
sun
prolonged work in front of the computer screen
aging
certain health problems such as diabetes, muscle disease, high blood pressure, etc.
The health of your eyes:
visual acuity usually diminishes with age
the eyes are constantly exposed to environmental factors, including air pollution, drought and oxidative damage caused by the sun.
eyes fatigue is increasingly present
knowing that the lifestyles and work conditions today lead a growing need for defense against oxidative damage, we can help maintain the proper functioning of our eyes by ensuring the capture of important nutrients, especially antioxidants helping to neutralize the damage caused by free radicals.
